Vagabond

Vagabond immerses you in a rugged landscape, from crumbling roads to dense forest paths. You navigate your way, manage supplies and equipment, and contend with the weather, wildlife, and cautious townsfolk. The pace is steady yet tense. Your choices are significant, but the quiet moments by the fire hold value too. Players appreciate it for its grounded stakes, tangible progress, and narratives that feel well-earned by the end of the adventure.

It is straightforward to learn and encourages teamwork and strategic planning. Ideal for newcomers, seasoned players, families, birthdays, and team-building events. It works both in person and online, with the tone set by you, whether gentle or gritty. A professional Game Master ensures fair pressure, introduces vibrant locations and NPCs, and transforms setbacks into meaningful choices. Ready to find the right guide for your table? How to play Vagabond

On your turn, you describe what your character does. When the outcome is risky or costly, you roll dice and the Game Master assists in interpreting the result. Travel scenes alternate with obstacles, encounters, and camping. The rules remain straightforward so that discussions and rolls are quick. The GM keeps track of supplies and increasing danger, ensuring you are always aware of the stakes and can decide how much risk to take.

Bring a character concept and a readiness to make difficult decisions. The Game Master provides reminders of the rules, maps, and pre-generated characters if you wish to jump in quickly. A one-shot focuses on a specific path with a clear objective and a tidy conclusion. A campaign follows a longer journey, developing connections with settlements, changing seasons, and plans for the future. Playing online is easy; see online play platforms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know any rules to play?

No. Vagabond is straightforward to learn at the table. A professional Game Master explains the basics as you progress. You describe what your traveller attempts, and you roll only when the outcome is risky or costly. Most of the play involves discussing plans, deciding how to use limited supplies, and choosing routes together. If you prefer to skip setup, pre-generated characters are available. If you enjoy customising, the GM will assist with quick choices so you can begin the journey without an extensive rules briefing.

How does Vagabond differ from D&D?

Vagabond focuses on the journey rather than dungeons or high magic. The tension arises from the weather, worn paths, and cautious communities, with practical issues such as food, fatigue, and trust. Combat is infrequent and perilous, and the rules are simplified, allowing story and planning to take precedence. Progress feels rewarding through clever decisions, rather than through leveling curves. If you appreciate arduous travel, small victories, and teamwork over spectacle, this will resonate with you. What does a typical session involve?

You choose a destination, examine the map, and set off. Travel scenes alternate with challenges such as inclement weather, damaged bridges, and tense encounters. Around the camp, you check supplies, share scenes between characters, and plan for the next day. Dice are only rolled when outcomes are uncertain, keeping the conversation engaging. A one-shot covers a straightforward route with a clear beginning and end in 2 to 3 hours. A campaign follows a longer path, with changing seasons, deepening connections to settlements, and evolving group objectives.

What group size and ages are most suitable?

Vagabond works best with 2 to 5 players. It is suitable for children, and a professional Game Master can adjust the tone and content to accommodate families or mixed-age groups. The emphasis on cooperation and practical problem-solving ensures that everyone is engaged, including shy or new players. The challenges remain fair, and the GM manages the rules so younger players can concentrate on their choices. If you prefer a more intense tone, that can be arranged as well, but it is always agreed upon in advance and tailored to your group.

Is the survival tough, or can we keep it easy?

You decide. Vagabond offers significant consequences, but the experience can shift from comfortable frontier journeys to tougher challenges. Running low on supplies will lead to complications, rather than immediate failure. Setbacks turn into new choices, such as altering your route, seeking assistance, or risking worn equipment. The GM monitors pressure behind the scenes and maintains clear stakes, allowing you to determine when to take risks and when to play it safe. Families often favour a more gentle tone, while experienced groups might request something with more edge.

Can we play Vagabond online?

Yes. It operates seamlessly over voice or video with straightforward shared maps and trackers. You don’t need a complicated virtual tabletop. A professional Game Master supplies all materials and ensures that rolls and inventory are easy to track. The simplified rules allow for a comfortable online pace, with quick checks and ample opportunity for conversation. What players think

  • First of all, I want to say that Sebastian was really great as a DM. For his first run as a booked DM, he did a really good job. The 3 stars refer to the following: 1. We were disappointed that the adventure was labelled a One Shot and yet wasn't a complete story. Discovering that there are two more parts wasn't very positive for us, as it meant there was no satisfying conclusion to the story. 2. As new players, it was difficult for us to understand the English character sheets in such a short time. In German, it would have been much easier. Even receiving the character sheets a few days in advance would have been helpful for preparation. 3. More guidance would be beneficial. Especially for beginners, a more linear one shot would have been preferable. We wasted a large portion of the adventure time doing unnecessary things because we didn't really know how the game worked. Overall, I think the StoryForgers concept is really good and I see a lot of potential in it, especially for introducing new players to D&D. I hope you don't take my feedback the wrong way but as honest criticism. Best regards, Mario

  • Bryan was exceptional. We had a group with varying levels of experience, and he managed to keep everyone engaged and involved. His attitude was fantastic, and he made the game enjoyable for all. I particularly appreciated how he could clearly explain what was required from our less experienced players while keeping our more seasoned players on their toes with his extensive knowledge of the game. Everyone in our party had a wonderful time thanks to Bryan.

    Jeremy

  • Dayron was fantastic. Well-prepared, punctual, and had a brilliant sense of humour.

    Corey

  • Dayron was fantastic; he provided an excellent experience. Thank you!

    The Merry Meeple

  • The game was incredibly engaging. I arranged a session as a gift for my boyfriend, who is very enthusiastic about it, and he was thoroughly pleased and appreciated Leonardo's professionalism. I don't have much experience with DnD, but I found the game to be quite straightforward and enjoyable.

    Marina

  • A very good GM, Baptiste adapted well to our group and helped us progress in this one-shot. One issue was with the character sheets provided, which were not complete or clear. Some of the French translations were rather approximate. For instance, our cleric was missing spells (no healing spell) even though they were meant to have some.

    Pierre

  • Rachel was fantastic; my daughter and her friends left their game saying it was the most fun they'd ever had, and my daughter wanted to sign up for another game with her straight away. She was friendly, and her approach enabled the players to fully immerse themselves in the game by allowing them to control how they wanted their actions to be carried out. I would certainly work with her again.

    John

  • A pleasant and straightforward introduction to D&D. Amber was adept at explaining and guiding the game, allowing us as players to quickly get into the rhythm and concentrate on the narrative. Collaborating with my colleagues to devise attack strategies was an enjoyable experience and provided valuable insights into each other's characters, thought processes, and differences. Overall, I found it to be a highly enjoyable session.

  • Pim is truly brilliant as a DM! Cheerful, adaptable, and exceptionally experienced. With a group of novice players, he managed to create an amazing experience in just a few hours. He maintained control in an enjoyable manner and engaged every player in the story, regardless of whether they were vocal or reserved. If you embark on an adventure with him, it will certainly be unforgettable!
