Teenagers from Outer Space
Play a sitcom-length anime at the table. You are teenagers, either human or from outer space. Classes, clubs, and crushes collide as wild gadgets turn small problems into big scenes. Sessions feel quick, packed with jokes, cutaway gags, and heart. A professional Game Master maintains the pace, sets up punchlines, and ensures everyone shines.
Ideal for first-time players and mixed groups. Kid-friendly by default, and easily adjustable to PG-13 for older teens and adults. Works well with 2 to 6 players in 2 to 3 hours. Perfect for birthdays, convention one-shots, and team-building fun. Choose to play in person or online. Browse our Game Masters to find someone who matches your sense of humour.
How to play Teenagers from Outer Space
On your turn, state what you attempt. If the outcome is uncertain, roll six-sided dice and add an appropriate number from your sheet. The Game Master sets a target or rolls for the opposition. If you exceed it, you achieve your goal, with room for flair. If you miss, the scene leans towards comedy rather than harm. Turns are quick, table talk is encouraged, and teamwork transforms disasters into even bigger laughs.
Players bring a teenage concept, a couple of standout talents or quirks, and a willingness to improvise. The Game Master introduces the school, clubs, rivals, and a host of complications that bounce around the session. A one-shot is akin to a single TV episode with a clear problem and a punchy conclusion. A campaign develops running gags, relationships, and school events over time. It works seamlessly online with voice, video, and shared boards. See options in online play platforms.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do we need to know about anime or TFOS to play?
There’s no need to watch anime or read the book. Your Game Master will explain the rules in just a few minutes and create a light-hearted, school-life sci-fi atmosphere. If you’re familiar with shows like Ranma 1/2 or classic Saturday morning cartoons, you’ll pick up on the vibe, but it’s not essential. Just bring a teenage character idea, whether human or alien, along with a couple of quirks you enjoy playing. Everything else will develop at the table.
How does TFOS differ from D&D?
TFOS is quick and humorous, with minimal tactical complexity. Scenes focus on clubs, classes, rivalries, and gadgets that add to the chaos of life. You roll a few six-sided dice to keep the narrative flowing. There is less treasure, no lengthy dungeon explorations, and no grid-based combat by default. Missed rolls typically result in amusing complications rather than permanent harm. Imagine sitcom pacing where character decisions and timing deliver the laughs, then the story moves ahead.
Which edition will we be using at the table?
Our Game Masters typically opt for the 3rd Edition for a smoother experience and clearer guidance. If you have a preference for 1e or 2e, please mention it when you book. Many are able to run those versions as well, or mix in your favourite elements. Character sheets and quick rules summaries are supplied. To compare GM preferences before making your decision, take a look at our Game Masters and review their notes.
Can it run well with two or six players?
TFOS scales well. With two players, it feels like a buddy comedy or a rival duo interacting with a vibrant school cast. With three to four, you get a tight ensemble. With five or six, it transforms into a lively group with quick scenes and tag-team antics. A professional Game Master ensures the spotlight rotates and streamlines rules so everyone remains engaged.
Do we need miniatures, maps, or special dice?
You do not need miniatures or a battle map. TFOS is best played as theatre of the mind, with occasional doodles or a simple whiteboard for locations and school antics. Bring standard six-sided dice. If you are playing online, your Game Master can provide a dice roller and a shared board for notes and quick sketches. Props are welcome but not essential.
Is it appropriate for children and mixed-age groups?
TFOS aims for light-hearted, cartoonish mischief. Pranks, crushes, and gadget blunders take centre stage, while any harm remains offscreen. A professional Game Master assesses comfort levels, avoids heavy topics, and keeps romance light unless the group requests more. For older teens and adults, the tone can shift to PG-13 with sharper jokes and more significant dilemmas. You can also choose a vibe you prefer on GM playstyles.
