Scion
Scion is a contemporary myth brought to the table. You play individuals whose lives are transformed by a divine calling and the influence of Fate. The stories blend everyday challenges with divine politics. Expect bold decisions, rapid twists, and moments that feel like a music video meets a myth. Beginners receive clear guidance and the opportunity to shine. Veterans discover intricate powers and rich pantheons to explore. It’s perfect for birthdays, convention one-shots, ongoing campaigns, and team-building evenings.
A typical session resembles a stylish action drama with emotional depth. The game begins in media res or with a quiet scene that takes an unexpected turn. Each hero enjoys their moment in the spotlight. You might pursue a chimera across rooftops, negotiate with Oshun at a garden party, or trace Fate threads on a city map. A professional Game Master adjusts the tone from light-hearted to gritty, keeps the pace lively, and ensures there is space for consent and safety tools. Play in person or online in approximately three to four hours.
How to play Scion
Scion uses a straightforward dice pool. When you attempt something risky, choose an Attribute and a Skill, roll that many ten-sided dice, and count 8s, 9s, and 10s as hits. The Game Master sets a difficulty in hits and may introduce complications that must be compensated for with extra hits. Gear, powers, and advantageous positioning provide enhancements, which add hits after you roll at least one. On your turn, you declare your intention, roll, and then spend extra hits on stunts such as increased damage, disarming, or assisting an ally. If you fail, the group gains Momentum to enable exciting moves later.
For a one-shot, the Game Master typically supplies pregenerated Scions, clear objectives, and a concise arc that culminates in a satisfying climax. A campaign allows you to evolve from Origin to Hero to Demigod, deepen relationships, and alter the city around you. You bring a character concept and an understanding of your mythic connections. The Game Master provides rules expertise, Boons and Knacks ready to use, adaptable scenes, and safety tools. Remote play is seamless with shared sheets and dice rollers on popular online platforms.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to know the rules or lore to play?
No. A professional Game Master teaches the Storypath basics in minutes and keeps the maths light. If you prefer, you can use pregenerated Scions so you can start playing quickly. Character creation is guided, with clear assistance in selecting Knacks, Boons, and Purviews. You do not need to be familiar with real-world myths beforehand. The GM introduces pantheons during play and checks for comfort and boundaries. Expect a respectful approach to culture and religion, with the tone tailored to your table’s preferences, ranging from light-hearted adventures to more dramatic narratives.
Which edition do you run, 2nd or 1st?
Sessions use Scion 2nd Edition by default. It features streamlined dice pools, Enhancements, and Scale to showcase superhuman feats, along with clear tiers from Origin to Hero to Demigod. If your group prefers 1st Edition, please mention it when booking, and a GM familiar with 1e can prepare it. For one-shots, 2e Hero-tier is common. Campaigns can start at Origin and develop from there. To find a GM who matches your edition and tone, browse available Game Masters.
How does Scion differ from D&D at the table?
Scion is a modern myth, so scenes are more cinematic and character-driven rather than focused on tactical mapping. You roll pools of d10s, count successes, and spend them on stunts and goals. Teamwork fuels Momentum, meaning even misses can set up significant moments later. There are no classes; you build your character with Knacks and Boons linked to your divine lineage. Stakes often involve Fate, oaths, and relationships as much as they do enemies. Combat is quick, while social interactions and investigations shine, and the gods take note of your choices. What power level do we begin at, and how extreme are the powers?
For a one-shot, most groups start at Hero, with a few signature Boons and Knacks that feel mythic without being overwhelming. If you prefer a gentler ramp, you can begin at Origin. In campaigns, you can advance to Demigod and face titanic threats. Powers range from storm-calling and shapeshifting to binding oaths, blessing allies, or reading Fate’s threads. The GM adjusts challenges using Enhancements and Scale so your feats feel significant without overshadowing others.
Can we combine pantheons or play heroes from our own culture?
Yes. Cross-pantheon groups are part of Scion’s design. 2e supports many pantheons, such as the Orisha, Theoi, Aesir, Netjer, Deva, Tuatha De Danann, and Shen. A professional Game Master assists in blending lineages so that everyone has a thematic niche. If your culture is not included in the books, inquire about respectful, collaborative options that reflect Scion’s mechanics. The GM assesses comfort levels and manages sensitive material with care, while still ensuring your characters’ heritage is significant in the story.
What group size is best for Scion?
A group of three to five players is ideal, allowing each Scion to have their moment in the spotlight. Two players can work exceptionally well for intimate, character-driven drama, such as a divine duo confronting Fate together. While six players is feasible, it requires a clear rotation of focus and concise scene framing. A professional Game Master adjusts the complexity of encounters, employs quick-cut montages, and establishes clear objectives to ensure the session remains dynamic, regardless of the size of the band.
