Electric Bastionland

Electric Bastionland immerses you in Bastion, a vast, electrified city filled with debt, scams, and peculiar opportunities. You take on the role of a crew of desperate misfits seeking treasure substantial enough to transform your fortunes. Magic is scarce, technology is makeshift, and the inhabitants are unforgettable. Fans appreciate its directness and the audacity with which it delves into the bizarre, from back-alley auctions to haunted substations and impossible museums. Each location invites you to investigate and discover what unfolds.

A typical session resembles a street-level heist combined with urban exploration. Choices are straightforward, dangers are evident, and clever strategies are more valuable than lengthy character development. It is ideal for newcomers and seasoned players who relish old-school challenges. It excels in one-shots, birthdays, and creative team events, accommodating 2 to 6 players over 2 to 3 hours. A professional Game Master ensures the pace remains brisk and the city vibrant. Find your Game Master.

How to play Electric Bastionland

You roll only when risk matters. To avoid harm, sneak, or hold your nerve, make a Save by rolling a d20 and trying to get equal to or under the relevant ability score. Attacks skip to-hit rolls. Roll your weapon’s damage, subtract armour, mark it off your HP, then into your abilities if you run out. Bad hits can take you out quickly, so scouting and smart play are key. Turns flow through conversation: you state intent, the Game Master clarifies factors, then you roll or the fiction moves on.

Players create a short character with a failed career, a few odd items, and a clear need for cash. The Game Master introduces living districts, factions, and risky opportunities. One-shots focus on a single job with a clean start and end, making them ideal for birthdays and team events. Campaigns track your growing contacts, debts, and territories across the city, allowing your crew to chase bigger scores and scars. Your Game Master can adjust tone and difficulty to fit your group; see GM playstyles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need to know any rules to get started?

No. A professional Game Master explains the basics in minutes. When something is risky, you test an ability by rolling a d20 and hoping to get a low number. Attacks use damage rolls immediately. You will learn by doing. Character sheets are concise. Most of the session involves discussing plans, examining situations, and making choices. A professional Game Master keeps things flowing and teaches as you progress.

How does Electric Bastionland differ from D&D?

No classes or lengthy level ladders. You are impoverished urban explorers attempting to settle debts in a vibrant city, rather than traditional dungeon delvers. The rules are streamlined, meaning that planning and tactics are more important than character builds. Magic is peculiar and rare. Technology is makeshift and unreliable. Encounters clearly outline the risks involved. It feels more like small-time heists and exploring unusual urban spaces than grand heroic quests.

How dangerous is combat and failure here?

Characters can get hurt quickly if you rush in. The game rewards scouting, clever tools, and choosing your battles wisely. Retreating is perfectly acceptable. Failure alters the situation rather than halting play, so consequences create new problems to tackle. A professional Game Master signals danger and adjusts the tone to suit your comfort. See common GM playstyles that your group can choose from.

What sort of characters will we be playing?

You begin as individuals with a failed career, a mountain of debt, and a few peculiar possessions. Each background provides quirky gear, contacts, and hooks. Character creation is swift and often humorous. You won't spend ages selecting feats. Instead, you'll assess what you possess, converse with others, and devise strategies to secure a score. Your crew is more important than your stats.

Is it better for one-off adventures or longer campaigns?

It shines in both. A one-shot functions effectively as a standalone adventure with a clear objective and satisfying conclusion, making it ideal for a birthday or team event. In a campaign, your party develops relationships, settles debts, and seizes bolder opportunities throughout the city. A skilled Game Master monitors factions and consequences, ensuring that your decisions resonate from session to session.

What age groups is Electric Bastionland suitable for?

It is suitable for children when approached with a gentle touch. The themes are urban, quirky, and occasionally tense, but you can maintain a non-graphic content style, emphasising curiosity and clever problem-solving. Teenagers tend to engage well. Mixed-age groups can also work effectively when an adult sets clear expectations. Inform a professional Game Master of the tone you desire, and they will tailor scenes accordingly.

What players think

  • First of all, I want to say that Sebastian was really great as a DM. For his first run as a booked DM, he did a really good job. The 3 stars refer to the following: 1. We were disappointed that the adventure was labelled a One Shot and yet wasn't a complete story. Discovering that there are two more parts wasn't very positive for us, as it meant there was no satisfying conclusion to the story. 2. As new players, it was difficult for us to understand the English character sheets in such a short time. In German, it would have been much easier. Even receiving the character sheets a few days in advance would have been helpful for preparation. 3. More guidance would be beneficial. Especially for beginners, a more linear one shot would have been preferable. We wasted a large portion of the adventure time doing unnecessary things because we didn't really know how the game worked. Overall, I think the StoryForgers concept is really good and I see a lot of potential in it, especially for introducing new players to D&D. I hope you don't take my feedback the wrong way but as honest criticism. Best regards, Mario

  • Bryan was exceptional. We had a group with varying levels of experience, and he managed to keep everyone engaged and involved. His attitude was fantastic, and he made the game enjoyable for all. I particularly appreciated how he could clearly explain what was required from our less experienced players while keeping our more seasoned players on their toes with his extensive knowledge of the game. Everyone in our party had a wonderful time thanks to Bryan.

    Jeremy

  • Dayron was fantastic. Well-prepared, punctual, and had a brilliant sense of humour.

    Corey

  • Dayron was fantastic; he provided an excellent experience. Thank you!

    The Merry Meeple

  • The game was incredibly engaging. I arranged a session as a gift for my boyfriend, who is very enthusiastic about it, and he was thoroughly pleased and appreciated Leonardo's professionalism. I don't have much experience with DnD, but I found the game to be quite straightforward and enjoyable.

    Marina

  • A very good GM, Baptiste adapted well to our group and helped us progress in this one-shot. One issue was with the character sheets provided, which were not complete or clear. Some of the French translations were rather approximate. For instance, our cleric was missing spells (no healing spell) even though they were meant to have some.

    Pierre

  • Rachel was fantastic; my daughter and her friends left their game saying it was the most fun they'd ever had, and my daughter wanted to sign up for another game with her straight away. She was friendly, and her approach enabled the players to fully immerse themselves in the game by allowing them to control how they wanted their actions to be carried out. I would certainly work with her again.

    John

  • A pleasant and straightforward introduction to D&D. Amber was adept at explaining and guiding the game, allowing us as players to quickly get into the rhythm and concentrate on the narrative. Collaborating with my colleagues to devise attack strategies was an enjoyable experience and provided valuable insights into each other's characters, thought processes, and differences. Overall, I found it to be a highly enjoyable session.

  • Pim is truly brilliant as a DM! Cheerful, adaptable, and exceptionally experienced. With a group of novice players, he managed to create an amazing experience in just a few hours. He maintained control in an enjoyable manner and engaged every player in the story, regardless of whether they were vocal or reserved. If you embark on an adventure with him, it will certainly be unforgettable!
